Today's Kindness #502: September 10, 2025
💜 Mental Health Matters 💜
September 10 is recognized as World Suicide Prevention Day, a time to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and remind those who may be struggling that they are not alone. Suicide Prevention Day also falls within Suicide Prevention Month, observed throughout September, which calls on all of us to shine a light on mental health and support those in need.
This day is a reminder that kindness can save lives. Even small gestures, like checking in on a friend, offering a listening ear, or simply reminding someone that they matter, can make a difference. Reaching out is powerful, and showing compassion can create a sense of connection that someone might desperately need.
If you or someone you know is struggling, there are organizations ready to help:
- 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: Dial 988 any time to be connected with trained counselors.
- NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness): Offers support, education, and advocacy for individuals and families.
- NIMH (National Institute of Mental Health): Provides information and resources about mental health research and care.
- IASP (International Association for Suicide Prevention): Works globally to prevent suicide and promote mental well-being.
- SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration): Offers treatment referral and resources for individuals facing mental health or substance use challenges.
Remember that mental health matters. Share resources, offer support, and be open to listening. Together, we can create a world where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.
"Do not be dismayed by the brokenness of the world. All things break. And all things can be mended."
